Pork loin is typically priced at $2-3 per pound, but you can often find it on sale and save a good bit of money!

Pork Gets Who I am

I am guilty of many things. Procrastination. Having too many “irons in the fire”. Having “fine wine taste on a beer budget”. Being totally random. Pork helps me make it through all of these.

A little while back, a grocery store chain here in central Ohio had pork half loins on sale for $1.69. I bought 5. Knowing very well I had to prove to my wife that this was indeed “a very sound purchase”, I travelled home and did what any sane person would do, I cut three of the loins into some pretty amazing chops….about 36 of them.

Buying whole or half pork loin gives you options. I cut some of the loins I bought on sale into thick cut pork chops, divided them into freezer bags and froze them to use later.

Pork is versatile.

I enjoy cooking with pork (to clarify, I enjoy eating far more than I enjoy cooking, but it’s a vicious cycle I’ve come to grips with) because it allows me creative freedom.

Pork loin easily takes on seasonings and flavors. I am a big fan of dry rubs and smoked meats.

While this is not a scientific statement, It’s my best estimate that pork loin can be used to create somewhere close to 438,754,473 different meals. Aside from pork chops, loin can be used as a roast, cut into cubes for salads or pastas, etc. etc.

Pork loin can be cubed and put on top of salad for a quick & easy meal solution. (Yes, there is obviously a good bit more pork, cheese, dressing, etc. than there is green stuff on this salad. That's how I roll.)

Having a mind that goes a couple dozen directions all at the same time, pork lets me be me….and I like that.
